Manual Lymphatic Drainage · Pre- & Post-Surgical Recovery
Supportive Care for Surgery Recovery
Whether you're preparing for a procedure, recovering from one, or simply looking for relief from everyday swelling, you're in the right spot.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage offers real, measurable support for your recovery, helping reduce swelling, clear excess fluid and protein buildup, and lower your risk of developing fibrosis. It also does a lot for how you feel getting there.
A calmer, less overworked nervous system
Support at a time when your body is doing a lot of hard work.
Faster bruise clearance, lower complication risk
MLD speeds the clearance of bruising and helps lower the risk of seroma.
More from your investment
MLD gives your body the best conditions to heal, so your results settle in well.
A more complete care team
MLD works alongside your surgeon's team, adding another layer of expert support during recovery.
More restful sleep during recovery
A calmer body sleeps better.
Back to your routine, sooner
More comfortable movement can mean an easier, faster return to work, family, and everyday life.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage works with a system your body already has: the network of vessels and nodes that quietly manages fluid balance and immune health. Using light, precise strokes, MLD encourages sluggish or disrupted fluid to move again — slow, deliberate work whose effects are easy to feel during recovery from surgery, injury, or everyday puffiness. AJ is certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD-C) and as a Certified Plastic Surgery Therapist (CPST) — you can read more about his training and credentials on the About page.
Sessions, Series & Packages
For a structured plan across your recovery, sessions are also available as a multi-week series or package.
Single Session
Pre or Post Surgical MLD
Pre-surgical prep is typically one to two sessions in the week leading up to a procedure, with the final session generally no less than 48 hours before surgery. After surgery, a series is recommended for treatment consistency and booking availability, but single follow-up sessions are here too: to add on to a series for a more intensive protocol, for the periodic maintenance care that continues for months after a series ends, or to go one session at a time.

Series
7-Session Series
The essential series: enough sessions to clear the minimum most protocols recommend for the first three weeks after a smaller, single-area procedure. For most single-procedure recoveries, the 10-Session Series is the standard recommendation, matching the every-other-day cadence most protocols call for.

Series
10-Session Series
The standard recommendation for most single-procedure recoveries: starting within the first few days after surgery, depending on your procedure and surgeon's clearance, and continuing every other day, this covers the first three weeks, the window where managing swelling matters most.

How Long Should My Session Be?+
Sessions typically begin within the first few days after surgery, depending on your procedure and surgeon's clearance, and continue every other day for the first three weeks. 60-minute sessions are usually a good fit for a single-area procedure; 90-minute sessions allow time for the careful positioning that combined procedures or fat-grafting (BBL, lipo 360, tummy tuck, mommy makeover) require. If you're not sure which length fits your procedure, reach out ahead of time and we can figure it out together, especially if you already have a surgery date: availability is limited, and booking early helps make sure your sessions land on schedule.
How Many Sessions Do You Need?+
You'll find real variation in post-surgical MLD guidance depending on which practitioner or training program you ask. Most protocols recommend at least 7 to 8 sessions in the first three weeks after surgery for the fullest physical recovery support, which is what the 7-Session Series is built to cover for a smaller, single-area procedure. That said, don't let a smaller number hold you back if that's what fits your budget or schedule, even a single session can be genuinely worthwhile, especially for how it helps you feel calmer and cared for during recovery. The standard recommendation, and the one the 10-Session Series is built around, is 10 sessions: starting within the first few days post-op, depending on your procedure, and continuing every other day through those first three weeks. Some training programs, including the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, recommend a more intensive protocol of up to 14 sessions in that same window, usually front-loaded with near-daily care in the first week. If you or your surgeon want that higher level of support, individual sessions can be added to the 10-Series to reach it. For combined or multiple procedures (BBL, lipo 360, tummy tuck, mommy makeover), stacking the 10-Session Series with the 7-Session Series gives you 17 sessions total, extra coverage during the acute phase plus a running start into longer-term care. Recovery doesn't stop at three weeks, either: continued support spaced out over the following months, and up to a year after surgery, helps manage lingering swelling, fibrosis, and scar tissue. That phase is much less frequent, roughly every one to a few weeks, and periodic single sessions are usually the best fit for it, since the pace is loose rather than a fixed series. Feel free to reach out ahead of time if you'd like help figuring out the right combination for your procedure, there's plenty of room to adjust as recovery progresses.

The Pre-Surgery Package is booked directly rather than through online scheduling, and series are most easily booked directly too. I'm here to assist, reach out when you're ready or if you have any questions.
Get in TouchPost-Surgical Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Lymphatic Drainage Massage)
Surgery disrupts the lymphatic pathways your body relies on to manage fluid and heal, which is why plastic surgeons so often recommend Manual Lymphatic Drainage (often called Lymphatic Massage) during recovery from procedures like BBL, tummy tucks, breast procedures, and liposuction. Working with gentle, directional strokes along those pathways, and rerouting when necessary, MLD supports your body's own drainage routes, helping ease swelling and bruising, discourage the formation of hardened tissue (fibrosis) that unmanaged fluid buildup can leave behind, and keep you more comfortable at each stage of healing.
Sessions can be coordinated directly with your surgeon's office on timing, drains, and compression — just reach out to discuss the specifics.
MLD for Everyday Swelling & Recovery
Manual Lymphatic Drainage isn't only for surgical patients. It can also support:
- Swelling and bruising from an injury, sprain, or strain
- Swelling related to an autoimmune or inflammatory condition
- General circulation, relaxation, and wellness
- Gentle, complementary support for conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraine headaches, and cellulite, always alongside your physician's care, not in place of it
- Supplemental sessions for clients already in the maintenance phase of lymphedema care with a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT)
